VINCENT VAN GOGH: “La chambre de Van Gogh à Arles (Van Gogh's room at Arles)”, 1889 - oil on canvas, 73-92 cm. - Chicago, Art Institute - view high resolution image
Van Gogh first painted his room in Arles in
October 1888 (Amsterdam, Rijksmuseum Van Gogh), and, one year later, he
painted two more versions while living in Saint-Rémy, being the work
illustrated here the most ellaborated of the three. "This time is simply my bedroom" -commented Van Gogh in a letter - "only here color is to do everything, and giving by its simplification a grander style to things".
